Puzzles!
We added Puzzles! You can now solves Puzzles based on YOUR games so that you're solving Puzzles in more relevant positions
Introducing Caissablanca Puzzles
We are proud to announce that Caissablanca has now added Puzzles! However, instead of giving you random positions that you'll likely never see in a real game, we wanted to do something different. If you have linked your account to your chess.com user, your Puzzles will be generated based off of YOUR games. That means that all of the Puzzles you solve will have been a position that you have actually been in. We hope this brings your practice to another level.
How does Caissablanca Puzzle generation work?
We generate Puzzles with Stockfish, analyzing every position in your games to see if it qualifies as a potential Puzzle. We base this criteria on mate in x opportunities, moments of strategic advantages, sacrifices, etc. Puzzles can be generated both for positions where you made the incorrect move, and when you made the correct move, to see if you can do it again!
How do I get my Puzzles?
First, connect your chess.com account to your Caissablanca account. Puzzles are currently only available for paying users since in the long term, it will cost us to run the Puzzle generation at scale. After connecting, visit the Puzzles page and click the "Generate Puzzles" button. You can select how many games you want to be generated in this batch (up to 100). Don't worry, if you generate Puzzles for your 100 most recent games and want to generate more, you can run the generation again. For the beta, generation requires your Caissablanca browser tab to be open. You can stop generation at any time, and the Puzzles already created will be available to play, even if the generation doesn't finish. While Puzzle generation is working, you can continue to use Caissablanca and it will run in the background. We recommend generating Puzzles on a computer, which can be up to 4x faster than on a phone. Run out of Puzzles? Well, you have some options. Either, you can replay your solved Puzzles, or you can... play more games on Chess.com and generate new puzzles.
What's next?
That's exactly what we're thinking too. When we see a stable stream of revenue, one of our first priorities will be to improve the Puzzle generation. Currently, we generate the Puzzles in the browser, which while free, is slower and requires the browser to be open. It also means that users have to manually choose to generate Puzzles themselves. Ideally, when a user connects their chess.com account, we start automatically generating Puzzles for all games in the background, even if they aren't on the website. To get technical, solving this requires a server which can run these "background jobs", which is currently outside of our budget. As soon as we can afford it, we'll make the Puzzle experience smoother.
